Pruning is when you selectively remove branches from a tree and the goal is to remove unwanted branches, improve the tree’s structure, and direct new, healthy growth.

Pruning is one of best things you can do for your trees. A proper prune is both an investment in the long-term health of your plants and in the overall look and safety of your property. – Davey – Proven solutions from a Growing World.

What this means is that tree pruning may be necessary to maintain a tree in a safe condition. This involves cutting each branch to a growth point on the tree. We carefully cut each branch creating a nice shape around the tree canopy, reducing the height and width. All are pruning will be done by silky where possible, this will allow our Belfast tree surgeons to do accurate pruning cuts.

Please note in-proper pruning may result in the tree looking unsightly and make the tree vulnerable to diseases which could result in leaving them in a dangerous condition.

Crown Thinning

Crown Thinning process to reduce branch density evenly throughout the canopy without changing the tree’s shape or size.
Crown thinning is a procedure of removing branches evenly throughout a trees canopy to reduce the density without changing the trees shape or size. Crown-thinning can be used as an alternative solution for trees that are at risk of failure from strong storms/winds, and can help increase light aswell as the removal of dangerous branches that may pose a risk. Too much crown thinning can cause the tree to fail or withstand strong gusty wings.

Crown Reduction

Crown Reduction to decrease the height and width of the tree canopy, reducing stress on branches and maintaining structure.
Crown reduction is a process where we reduce the height and width of the trees canopy. We can also do this to reduce the stress on limbs and increasing volume under crowns which can lead to greater light absorption.

Crown Lifting

Crown Lifting to increase clearance between the lowest branches and the ground for pedestrians and vehicles.
Crown lifting is a process of which we increase the height between the lowest branches/ limbs and the ground making this clear for pedestrians and vehicles to pass without obstruction. Often clients may want to increase light into property or land. Please note that Tree owners have a responsibility to ensure trees do not pose a H&S risk along highways and footpaths therefore crown lifting may be a possibility.

Dead Wooding

Dead Wooding process to remove weak or dead limbs, improving tree safety and reducing hazards.
Dead wooding is often carried out when the limbs of a tree die or they become weak and eventually fall off. Dead wooding is vital to ensure safety in public spaces and communal areas at home as often branches can fail. We do this by working throughout the canopy removing any visible dead wood to a growth point or main stem.

Pollarding

Pollarding to remove branches and limbs while encouraging healthy regrowth and preventing decay.
Pollarding is removing all branches and limbs to a growth knuckle whilst being careful to not cut around the collar so that the tree can grow callisis to prevent rot and decay setting in. Pollarding is perfect for trees in close proximity of properties and confined spaces or fast growing trees.
